Turning back to the original topic of this thread, I'm sorry to say
that all the tweaking I did hasn't
had any effect - I tried to install the 20040714 Debian sarge via FTP,
and it hung, crashed or
failed every single time.

I actually say down and calculated how hot the inside of my machine
got when the CPU was
maxed out - at 100% CPU utilization (which happened frequently when
the installer would hang), the internal temperature was approximately
67 degrees C (which comes out to 149 degrees F).
My father and I both agree that this is probably why my system is so
flaky and why it has begun
to fail.

Thanks for your help everyone; I'm certain now that my system has had
it, and that I'm probably
going to need a new one, one that runs a lot cooler at full load than
67 degrees C. Does anyone
have any recommendations?
