This wasn't the gadget that got me there directly, but it led me to
another part of dri.sourceforge.net, whence I downloaded the latest
greatest DRI version with new GLX libs and even a brand-new XFree86
server. Wheee!... result: exactly the same as before. :( Plus, I don't
know how to get back to my original configuration: restoring xcommon +
xserver-xfree86 + xlibmesa-{dri,gl,glu} and trying to run X locks the
machine solid. I dread my next update... I'll probably have to uninstall
X - which means that every single X-related app will get unistalled as
well - and reinstall it all from scratch. Oh well.

(I hasten to say - not your fault. I knew what I was risking when I
tried it. So goes life, at times.)
