That normally happens when the UID/GID mappings to username, groupname
don't match, normally because the user/group on the system it was
packaged does not exist on yours....

As to your error, I am able to play filetypes using this plugin just
fine. Are you using Marillat's .debs? What flavour of debian? Are you
using backports?
