Well, what I was trying to say is that what sucks is in the eye of the
beholder--given the choice between two apps with similar functionality,
the casting vote goes to appearance. In terms of the category of user I
mentioned before, the ugliness of an app leads to a refusal to use it.
Someone looking for an Adobe Illustrator equivalent more than likely
won't stand for Xfig, even if it does do what they need, but might use
KIllustrator, even if it doesn't.
I will admit that I wasn't aware of any efforts to make FVWM look nice,
thanks for whipping the rug out from under my example :)
