Since you have more than one thing segfaulting, I'm going to suggest
that you have some RAM issues.  Segfaulting applications in this way are
symtomatic of such things.  Install "memtest86", which can be had from
www.memtest86.org, or from a Knoppix CD or an LNX-BBC CD.  Run that for
a good 24 hours and see what it says.

As an aside, your .signature file sucks.  Not only did you post it
*twice* but it's too big, and breaks any good netiquette rules of being
 >5 lines long.
