For those who weren't paying attention at the time, which included me,
Springer was once mayor of Cincinnatti (back around the WKRP days, and
I believe he was actually mentioned off hand on the show once), and he
was very popular.

As a councilman, he paid for a hooker with a *check*, and survived the
resulting fracas to be *re-elected* later.

He's not as much of a moron as his persona suggests.  Go, him.
