It's entirely possible that you live in a simple little world.  

Mine is perhaps a bit eore nuanced, but one thing that's pretty clear is
that any firm you do occasional work for, as an independent contractor,
doesn't get to dictate from above which tasks _you_ are willing to
accept, nor what tools or methods you would apply to it.

If you recognise no such distinction, and call anyone who pays for work
on whatever basis an "employer", and fail to grasp my point about
_whose_ customer had the XENIX box, well, good luck with that.  I'm sure
there's a dictionary somewhere _even for you_, if only you look hard
enough.
