The etiquette is "if you have something to contribute, jump right in".
 Especially if it's in response to a Linux question, or if you have a
Linux question yourself.  The FAQs at linuxgazette.net explain the the
types of questions and answers that are most (and least) favored.

Thanks for your contribution, Reilly, and welcome.  If you'd like to
say a bit about yourself and your experiences with Linux, we'd be
happy to hear.

Two rules that will prevent you from incurring the Wrath of Thomas:
#1: don't change the Subject: in the middle of a topic
#2: put your message below the quoted text you're replying to, not above
(Both of these make the TAG Editors' thread-sorting program work
better.  If two threads have to be joined for publication, it's more
work.)
