Udev hosed -and- installing Gentoo

It's been several months since I installed Gentoo, but yes, the CD-boot
environment leaves much to be desired. Ironically those utilities *are*
on the System Rescue CD (http://www.sysresccd.org/), which is
Gentoo-based. I used that disk to run "lspci" and "lsmod" to figure out
which drivers I'd need in my kernel, and then installed Gentoo.
