You might enjoy the slightly cranky bit of documentation that I posted
to the prototype wiki replacement for Silicon Valley Linux User Group's
Web site (on one of Heather's machines), starting with header

I was definitely getting in touch with the curmudgeon within, when I
wrote this entry:

   website/Website: No such word. Correct to "Web site".

   No, there's nothing wrong with inventing new words, especially where
   they make our language more expressive and fill a need not met by
   existing words. This one doesn't qualify, and is really just the result
   of people being sloppy. Some would call our cleaning it and similar
   things off our pages "prescriptivism"; I prefer the term "leadership".
