The Turing Machine was a result of Turing's noodling on the
Einstein/Podolsky/Rozen paradox - which is the cornerstone of quantum
mechanics. Taking an alternate route, quantum physics is the basic
principle behind the operation of non-linear devices (i.e., transistors
and diodes, and consequently integrated circuits.)
