[TAG] [MAILER-DAEMON at localhost.localdomain: Undelivered Mail Returned to Sender]

Quoting Claude Sutton (cssutto at attglobal.net):

> OK, this one should have all of the headers.

OK, but -- if you'll pardon my being a bit tired and distracted --
what's the question? Were you asking me to explain the DSNs (delivery
status notifications) that were sent back to you?

Since it looks like some or all of those DSNs were from my machine, I
hope you won't think me conceited in asserting that the DSNs' text looks
pretty clear, to me. I mean, they say in considerable detail why the
mail is being declined permanently (550 rejects). So, I'm left
wondering: Did you _try_ to read those? Which parts weren't clear?

I mean, I know in my less giddy moments that most people completely
ignore diagnostic messages they see on their computers (and thereby end
up doing a lot of very silly things), but by the same token I seldom
see them asking _other_ people to read and explain them.

> Should I send a copy of this to the tech guy at 2it.net or should I wait

At the risk of sounding cranky: Why don't you _read_ them, first?

Also, I hope you're aware that I have no idea who "2it.net" is, or why
they are relevant to your situation. Again, it's best if your help
requests are specific, concise, and self-contained. If helping you
requires knowing something about "2it.net", then it's best for you to
include that information.

Anyhow: The first DSN was from my host. You had sent mail claiming to
be from "claudesutton at suttonmachine.com". While considering whether to
accept the mail, my server did a "callout" SMTP session to verify that
"claudesutton at suttonmachine.com" is a deliverable address, as required
by the RFCs. It was not: Upon reaching IP address 198.70.140.15
(presumably, one of the mail exchangers for suttonmachine.com), it was
told "550 (permanent reject): Relaying denied."

My server requires that delivering machines obey key RFCs (absent manual
whitelisting by me); otherwise, it rejects the mail and explains why.

Your job, of course, is to figure out why mail is not being accepted for
"claudesutton at suttonmachine.com" and fix that.

The second DSN was also from my host, and is the same story, except that
it was a post you addressed to tag at lists.linuxgazette.net, instead of to
rick at linuxmafia.com.

The third DSN was pretty much the same as the first one.

The fourth DSN was pretty much the same as the second one.

> I forgot to exit mutt and reboot, so mutt was not using my changes.

{cringe} As Ben says, pretty much nothing short of a kernel or severe
hardware problem should necessitate rebooting. Bad. Please don't.
