You and I have already discussed this, so you already know that I really
dislike this layout. I think taking up all the space on that second
line for the sake of "not wasting space" makes it look cluttered and
amateurish. (It's a classic style of bargain-basement design - white
space phobia.) (I'm less annoyed by this layout in 800x600 mode,
incidentally, but that's the minority of our readership now.)
What happens if we try putting all the links on the
*left* and the ISSN last on the list?
OR:
If we take "main site" out of the links list, will the ISSN fit @ 800px?
We can then move "Main Site" into the list of boxes on the right side,
either just above or just below "Web hosting provided by".
OR:
What about putting the ISSN and Main Site and (something else, whether
it's hosted by, or the copyright box, or...?) into the right sidebar?
(This is, I think, the least-preferred solution, as we wanted to have a
solution for both the main site page and the issue front page, yes?)
It's starting to look to me like the "let's redesign the layout" project
needs to be given higher priority now.
I'll be sketching at this for the next few days in between other things,
so as to be putting energy into finding a solution and not just
nitpicking.
